Creative Reuse Meets History thanks to Eagle Scout Ben Herman
The Hershey History Center is proud to promote creative reuse of historical artifacts into meaningful pieces of historical preservation.
One such example of this was an Eagle Scout project completed, on the Center’s grounds to enhance our landscaping, was all about using salvaged architectural items to tell a story.
Ben Herman, of Troop 368, installed sections of the railing from the original Pinehurst #35 farm home, utilizing bricks from the structure as accents. This was a Milton Hershey School farm home from 1930 into the 1970s, and was recently razed and replaced with the Cocoa Flats apartments. Interpretive signage will be installed shortly to complete this project.
