Cubby's Ice Cream Café serves handcrafted ice cream, milkshakes, and sweet treats in a cheerful, family-friendly space loved by locals of all ages.
Speciality: Hand-crafted ice cream & milkshakes
At Cubby’s Ice Cream Café, we believe in neighbors serving neighbors. We’re not just an ice cream shop—we’re a gathering place for the community. Whether it’s a Tuesday in February or a sunny summer afternoon, we want to be the spot where families, friends, and neighbors come together to enjoy high-quality ice cream and good company.
We are Inspired by the classic New England ice cream culture; we bring that hometown feel to Hummelstown. We want to be a local, year-round fixture—not just a seasonal stop. Our menu features premium, locally made ice cream, plus house-made waffle cones, nitro cold brew, and other carefully curated treats that complement the ice cream experience.
After more than two decades in the food and hospitality industry, I wanted to create something local, lasting, and meaningful. Buying an established neighborhood ice cream shop gave me the chance to build on something special—without the constraints of the corporate world. Cubby’s isn’t about chasing trends or cutting corners—it’s about creating a place that people return to for generations. Whether it’s a grandparent bringing their grandkids, a father-daughter ice cream night, or a post-game celebration, we want to be the place people think of when they want to treat themselves.
One of the biggest challenges has been navigating the transition from a corporate environment to small business ownership. When you’re running an independent shop, everything falls on you—from licenses and permits to branding and payroll. There’s no department to handle logistics or marketing; you have to figure it out. I’ve learned that investing in the right professional services—accountants, attorneys, marketing support—pays off tenfold.
Hospitality has always been at the core of who I am. There’s something incredibly satisfying about serving people in real-time, seeing their smiles, and being part of their everyday joy. Unlike the corporate world, where decisions take months and meetings pile up, running Cubby’s gives me the freedom to listen to my customers, adjust on the fly, and create an experience that truly reflects the community.
At the heart of everything we do is quality. We partner with Beck’s Ice Cream, a small-batch, high-quality producer that delivers the kind of ice cream you’d happily pay for because it’s just that good. We could have gone with a cheaper product—but that’s not what Cubby’s is about. If we don’t believe in it, we won’t sell it.
"Hold on to happiness." That’s our business theme.
No matter how tough the day is, there’s always a little happiness to be found—sometimes in the form of an ice cream cone. That’s the attitude we bring to Cubby’s every day
We focus on hyper-local initiatives, including sponsoring Lower Dauphin student-athletes and supporting local youth programs. But the cause closest to our hearts is the Emily Whitehead Foundation, which raises funds for pediatric cancer research. Every April, we host a big fundraising event to support their mission, and it’s something we plan to continue for years to come.
We’re also super pet-friendly—we even feature portraits of local rescue animals in the shop and participate in adoption awareness initiatives. And yes, we’ll always have a pup cup ready for your furry friends. 🐾
I have five guinea pigs and two rescue dogs at home! 🐹🐶 Also, ice cream runs in my blood—literally. When my grandfather immigrated from Italy in 1921, his listed occupation on his immigration papers was “ice cream maker.”
