Yokl Internship Program | Community Interviews for Students

We believe some of the most powerful stories in a community are still waiting to be told — and that students are uniquely gifted to tell them.

Our Internship Program brings local high school and college students into the heart of our mission: spotlighting entrepreneurs, strengthening communities, and helping young people grow through real-world experience.

Our interns don’t scrape information that already exists online. Instead, we send them into the community — face to face with local business owners — to listen, learn, and capture stories that matter.

They interview entrepreneurs, gather insights, and help create original profiles that live on our platform and are shared with the community and beyond.

We do this for four important reasons.

First, the content truly matters. When you learn the struggles, triumphs, risks, and resilience behind a local business, something changes. You no longer see a storefront — you see a story. And stories create connection. Connection leads to loyalty. Loyalty strengthens communities.

Second, students learn from the builders of their community. Our interns sit across the table from people who are creating jobs, taking risks, and shaping the local economy. They practice professional communication, interviewing skills, and relationship-building — while forming real connections with mentors they may never have met otherwise.

Third, they become published authors. Each intern creates original content that lives on our site and carries their byline. They leave our program not just with experience, but with a published piece of work they can share in college applications, job interviews, and future opportunities. It’s a small credential — but often a meaningful first step toward where they hope to go.

And finally, we learn from them! Our interns bring energy, perspective, and ideas we simply couldn’t generate on our own. They’re on the front lines of emerging trends. They see the world differently. Their creativity, curiosity, and new mojo make our organization better.

At the end of the day, this program isn’t just about content. It’s about connection and community. And it’s about helping the next generation find their voice while honoring the people building the places we love.

If you’re a student who’s curious, driven, and eager to learn — or an educator or business owner who wants to support this mission — we’d love to meet you.
