Meet Lynne Zsido, the Entrepreneur Behind Park Avenue Salon and Spa in Hershey, PA
I first met Lynne Zsido about 10 years ago when I was running a business that helped small business owners with marketing and PR. We really got to know each other on a personal level during a car ride from Hershey to York, where Lynne was being featured on a TV segment about Mother’s Day gift ideas. She was talking about her dream—owning her own spa—and I could feel her passion and dedication.
Lynne’s journey to opening Park Avenue Salon and Spa was one fueled by years of experience and hard work. Before opening her own spa, Lynne had managed the spa at the luxurious Hotel Hershey. But her dream of creating a personal space where guests could feel pampered and rejuvenated led her to the charming location at Park Avenue in Hershey. With the help of her husband (a contractor), they transformed the space from the ground up, and the result is a beautiful, welcoming environment where beauty and wellness come together.
Through the years, Lynne has seen her business evolve, overcoming challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and constantly adapting to meet the needs of her loyal clients. Her resilience and entrepreneurial spirit are what make Park Avenue Salon and Spa such a beloved local business, and we’re lucky to have her as part of our small business community.

If you’ve ever talked to my friends Ali and Chris, you’ve probably heard them rave about Chocolates by Tina Marie in Hummelstown, PA. These two are practically its biggest fans—and after finally stopping in myself, I can see why! The moment I walked into this charming chocolate haven, I felt like I’d discovered something truly special.
And let me tell you, meeting Tina Olaf-Lerch—the heart and soul behind this sweet shop—was just as delightful as her creations. You know how you meet someone and instantly feel like you’ve known them
forever? That’s how it was with Tina. Her warm personality is as inviting as the irresistible chocolaty smells that fill the shop.
Tina’s entrepreneurial journey is just as sweet as her chocolates. Before she became the owner of Chocolates by Tina Marie, Tina was a corporate admin and sales whiz. After several rounds of “downsizing,” Tina found herself asking, “What am I doing with my life?” That’s when she decided to take matters into her own hands—and the world of chocolate was her next big adventure.
In 2007, Tina and her husband, Ed, took their leap of faith and started their business at the Farmstead Farmers Market on Route 743. Their first signature treat? The peanut butter meltaway—which was actually born out of an “oops” moment while preparing sweets for a corporate event. Today, these meltaways are a best-seller, and a true fan favorite.
And that hyphen in her name? Tina says it best herself: “It took me 42 years to get married; I wasn’t about to give up my last name!” It’s the perfect reflection of her strong, independent spirit.
Tina is also a true community leader in Hummelstown, where she is deeply involved in the Hummelstown Business and Professionals Association (HBPA) and helped create the town’s popular 2nd Friday events. So, when you support Chocolates by Tina Marie, you're supporting a local dynamo who genuinely cares about her community.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better—Tina and Ed recently took home a major award at a regional candy show for their espresso caramels! This well-deserved recognition even landed them on the front page of The Sun—talk about a sweet success story!
You’ll probably spot Tina around town wearing a fabulous shade of lavender or purple, flashing that infectious smile of hers. She’s a bubbly, “type A” powerhouse with a laugh that can light up any room. I promise you, just like I did, you’ll be enchanted by her and her chocolates in an instant!
Why You Should Visit Chocolates by Tina Marie
So why should you make Chocolates by Tina Marie your next stop in Hummelstown? Let me give you a few sweet reasons:
- Award-Winning Chocolates: Tina’s chocolates aren’t just delicious—they’re award-winning! With favorites like the espresso caramels and peanut butter meltaways, you’re in for a treat that’s been recognized at a regional level. Quality is always top-notch here

The boutique has changed hands a few times. Now, it’s owned by Donna Mervine Jefferson, who purchased Simply J after an impressive 30-year career in IT with Highmark. She swapped code for couture.
“The opportunity presented itself, and I went for it,” she says, recalling her whirlwind journey to boutique ownership. Just a month later, she found herself diving headfirst into the ever-changing world of fashion, navigating the ins and outs of retail—pretty much trial by fire!

The Fresh Market at Hershey Towne Square: A Taste of Local Flavor and History
If you haven’t yet discovered The Fresh Market at Hershey Towne Square, it’s time you made your way to this local gem nestled in the heart of Hershey, Pennsylvania. Situated a stone’s throw from Hersheypark, the market offers much more than just fresh produce and homemade goodies. It’s an experience — one that weaves together the rich history of Hershey with the vibrant, farm-to-table offerings of Central Pennsylvania. I love it! The building dates back to the 1930s, when it was originally used as a meat processing plant.
A Marketplace Rooted in Local Flavor
The market is home to over 40 local vendors, offering everything from fresh produce and meats to handmade baked goods and one-of-a-kind culinary creations. With over 25,000 square feet of space spread across two levels, there’s no shortage of delicious finds, whether you’re stocking up for the week or just popping in for a casual bite.
Take a stroll through the market’s aisles, and you’ll find everything from heirloom tomatoes and crisp greens to local cheeses, fresh-baked breads, and even sweet treats from some of Hershey’s best-loved bakers. But what really sets The Fresh Market apart is its emphasis on local food in Hershey, with many vendors bringing the best of Central Pennsylvania’s agricultural bounty right to your table.
A Food Lover’s Paradise
While the vendors are the heart of the market, the food court is where the magic truly happens. Offering a wide range of prepared foods, The Fresh Market is perfect for a casual lunch or an easy dinner out. Whether you’re in the mood for a fresh sandwich, a hearty bowl of soup, or something a little more indulgent, there’s something to please every palate.
And it’s not just about eating — it’s about supporting the hardworking local vendors who pour their hearts into creating the food we love. “All of our vendors are locally owned small businesses,” says Steve Dayton, one of the market’s managing partners. “They’ve worked tirelessly to perfect their offerings, and we’re so proud to have them here.”
If you’re in the mood for a snack or dessert after your meal, you’ll find plenty of sweet treats too — from local chocolates to baked goods that are impossible to resist. And while you’re enjoying your meal, take in the atmosphere: the market is warm, welcoming, and filled with the buzz of happy customers, each one discovering something new.
Visiting The Fresh Market
The Fresh Market is open Thursday through Saturday, with food court hours from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and a few vendors staying open a bit later for those evening cravings. Whether you’re popping in for a quick bite or staying a while to explore, there’s no wrong way to visit.
- Food Court: Thursday – Saturday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- First Floor Food & Beverage: Available until 8:00 PM
- Lower Level Vendors: Thursday – Saturday, 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Market Level Vendors: Thursday – Saturday, 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
It’s a perfect spot to grab lunch with friends, stock up on local staples, or simply enjoy the atmosphere. But don’t rush through — you’ll want to take your time and savor each moment at this unique marketplace.
History in the Making
For those who appreciate a little history with their shopping, The Fresh Market offers a deep dive into Hershey’s past. The Hershey Abattoir building that houses the market has been a fixture of Hershey since it was constructed in 1936. Over the years, it’s served as a meat-processing plant, a mail processing center, and even a place for processing cocoa butter soap. In 2017, the building was honored with the Hershey History Center Preservation Award for its thoughtful renovation, which preserved the building’s historic architecture while giving it new life as a community hub.
Meet the Man Behind the Market
Steve Dayton, one of the managing partners behind The Fresh Market, has long been passionate about bringing together the best of local food, community, and history. “This market is my baby,” he says, reflecting on his deep commitment to the project. Dayton and his partners were behind the development of the entire West Chocolate Avenue block, but The Fresh Market holds a special place in his heart. His vision was clear: to create a destination where both locals and visitors could enjoy high-quality, farm-fresh products in a welcoming, community-driven space.
“I want to create a place where people can come together, support local businesses, and enjoy good food in a place that honors our town’s history,” Dayton says. And it’s clear that he’s succeeded — The Fresh Market has quickly become a beloved part of Hershey’s food scene.

Sweet Boutique Inn at Hershey: A Hidden Gem Just Off Chocolate Avenue
If you're like me, you’ve probably taken a bike ride or walk through Palmyra and Hershey and noticed some things you wouldn’t see from the comfort of your car. That’s exactly what happened to me and my husband, Braxton, one spring afternoon when we rode by a charming little inn tucked just a half block off Chocolate Avenue. We were immediately drawn to its quaint charm and decided to stop and take a closer look.
As we admired the property, the owner, Orpha Longenecker, came over to greet us with a warm smile. She introduced herself and her husband, Dave, explaining that they had recently purchased the Sweet Boutique Inn. Orpha shared that they’d bought the property for around $500,000 and had invested another $500,000 (not to mention countless hours of hard work) into transforming it into the beautifully renovated inn it is today.
It turns out this wasn’t just a business venture for the Longeneckers—it’s a family project. Their children have pitched in to help with the renovations, making it a true labor of love. Today, Sweet Boutique Inn is a stunning place to stay, offering a cozy yet stylish spot for visitors to Hershey, whether you're here for a concert, a sporting event, or just to explore the town’s world-famous attractions.
Currently listed on Airbnb, this charming boutique inn is quickly gaining a following, and I’m sure it won’t be long before their guestbook is filled with glowing reviews and repeat visitors. Every time Braxton and I drive past on Chocolate Avenue, we can’t help but peek into the parking lot to see if it’s full—often, it is! It’s clear that the Longeneckers have created something special here, and we’re rooting for their continued success.
Why You Should Visit Sweet Boutique Inn at Hershey
When you book a stay at Sweet Boutique Inn, you're not just booking a room—you're supporting a locally owned business that cares deeply about its community. Unlike large hotel chains, the Longeneckers are committed to keeping their operations local. This means that when you spend your money at Sweet Boutique Inn, most of it stays right here in our community, instead of going to the headquarters of a big corporate chain.
By choosing this boutique inn, you're helping a local family thrive and grow their business. Whether you’re staying for a weekend getaway, hosting out-of-town guests, or looking for a convenient place to rest after a day at Hersheypark or a concert at the Giant Center, Sweet Boutique Inn offers personalized service and a cozy atmosphere that corporate chains simply can't match.
So, the next time you're in Hershey, make it a point to check out Sweet Boutique Inn. Not only will you be treated to a lovely, well-appointed stay, but you'll also be supporting a hardworking local business that’s making a big impact in the heart of Hershey.
