At the Hershey Rotary Club meeting on January 13, Milton Hershey School proudly presented
two exceptional students as their January Students of the Month. Introduced by MHS President
Jennifer McConnell, both Takuma Sugita and Angelise Luttrell exemplify leadership, talent, and
a commitment to making a difference.

Takuma Sugita: A Visionary Leader and Aspiring Pilot

Takuma Sugita, a senior at Milton Hershey School, is a remarkable individual whose
accomplishments span academics, athletics, and the arts. Currently serving as the president of the
school’s National Honor Society, Takuma’s leadership skills are matched by his creativity. His
artwork, which has been featured and sold at the Hershey Rotary Club's art auction, is a
testament to his artistic talent.

In his speech, Takuma shared his journey to MHS, which began in 2021 after a visit to Hershey
Chocolate World. “My mom told me about the existence of MHS, how kids there had free food,
clothing, and education, and most importantly to me, braces,” he recalled. His decision to apply
that very night changed the trajectory of his life.

Takuma thanked his teachers, saying, “They have challenged me and helped me grow. And
though they may not know it, they’re big reasons for me being who I am today.” In addition to
excelling in soccer and track and field, Takuma gives back by hosting soccer clinics for
elementary students. His dream of becoming a pilot is now within reach thanks to the
scholarships provided to MHS students. He plans to pursue a degree in aviation management at
Marywood University while earning his pilot’s license.

Angelise Luttrell: A Dedicated Student and Future Architect

Angelise Luttrell, a senior who has been part of the MHS community for 11 years, embodies
resilience and commitment. Her principal, Jennifer McConnell, described Angelise as an
engaged member of the school community, excelling in swimming and diving, as well as serving
as Secretary of the National Honor Society.

In her heartfelt remarks, Angelise credited her teacher and coach, Heather Dougherty, as a major
influence in her life. “She believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself,” Angelise shared,
recalling an encouraging interaction with Ms. Dougherty. Angelise’s passion for community
service is evident in her efforts to clean up local areas and connect with older community
members, whose wisdom and advice inspire her.

After graduating, Angelise plans to pursue a degree in architecture, a field that aligns with her
creativity, determination, and vision for making a lasting impact.

Celebrating Excellence and Service

Both Takuma and Angelise embody the values of Milton Hershey School and the Hershey
Rotary Club—excellence, leadership, and a dedication to giving back. Their stories are a
testament to the transformative power of education, mentorship, and community support.
