Leading Like Daniel

Stay Calm, Rally Support, Expect Success, Give Thanks

I was reading in the book of Daniel this week, the story where King Nebuchadnezzar has a troubling dream. The dream worries him, but he can’t remember it clearly, and he refuses to tell anyone what it was. Instead, he demands that his wise men tell him both the dream and its meaning… or face death.

Can you imagine that kind of pressure? Daniel was one of those “wise men,” and he suddenly found himself in an impossible situation. Yet instead of panicking, he stayed calm. He spoke reasonably to the guard who came to carry out the king’s order and asked for time to seek an answer.

Then Daniel did something powerful — he gathered his friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and asked for their prayers and support. Together, they sought help from God. In that quiet humility and teamwork, the answer came. Daniel received both the dream and its interpretation — and before doing anything else, he thanked God.

There’s a model here for all of us, especially for anyone running a business, leading a team, or pursuing something new:

  1. Stay calm under pressure. Reason, not panic, opens the way forward.

  2. Rally your support system. Even Daniel didn’t face challenges alone.

  3. Expect success. Move with faith that the answers will come.

  4. Give thanks. Always pause to show gratitude to the people who help and to God who guides.

Daniel couldn’t have known that his journey would later take him to a lion’s den, but his faith and steadiness prepared him for it. The same principles hold true today: leadership rooted in calm, faith, collaboration, and gratitude can see us through any test.
