Hershey Rotary Club Jan Students of the Month Vinay Raman&Violet Foley

The Hershey Rotary Club proudly recognized two outstanding Hershey High School students as
January’s Students of the Month—Vinay Raman and Violet Foley. These exceptional individuals
were celebrated for their achievements, leadership, and commitment to community service at the
Rotary meeting on Monday, January 13, 2025

Vinay Raman: Excellence in Athletics and Service

Vinay Raman, a senior at Hershey High School, is a decorated athlete and a dedicated
community servant. Recently, Vinay captured the District III Cross Country Championship and
earned an impressive third place at the PIAA State Cross Country Meet.

During his speech, Vinay expressed gratitude to the Hershey Rotary Club, as well as his teachers
and school administrators, stating, “Special thanks to my US History teacher, Mr. Mummert,
who makes class very enjoyable and engaging, and my former calculus teacher, Mr. John
Walizer, for letting me crash in his room in the morning as he jammed to 80s music.”

Beyond the classroom and the track, Vinay’s heart for service shines. As the founder of a
nonprofit organization, he facilitated the donation of over 100 pairs of shoes to Cocoa Packs, a
local initiative supporting children in need. This fall, Vinay will attend the University of
Pennsylvania to study Environmental Science while continuing his athletic pursuits in cross
country and track.

Violet Foley: A Scholar and Community Leader

Violet Foley, another Hershey High School senior, is an exceptionally talented and driven
student. A National Merit Semifinalist and AP Scholar with Distinctions, Violet also serves as
Secretary of the National Honor Society and is a member of the school’s Orchestra Leadership
Council. Her unwavering dedication and leadership extend to every aspect of her academic and
extracurricular life.

In her speech, Violet shared, “I’m passionate about giving service. I fell in love with community
service because I fell in love with this community. Each member of this community has given
me so much, and they are truly the reason why I’m so passionate about getting involved and
pushing to make the world a better place.”

Violet also thanked the Hershey Rotary Club and her school community for the honor and
extended her congratulations to fellow students being recognized.

A Celebration of Excellence

Hershey High School Principal Lindsey Schmidt introduced the honorees, praising both students
for their extraordinary accomplishments and their positive impact on the Hershey community.
"Their dedication and leadership shine in everything they do at Hershey and beyond," said
Principal Schmidt. "We are so lucky to be part of their journey."
