What does your business do?

At Elements of Health, we focus on functional medicine and esthetics, helping people restore their well-being through a holistic approach. Instead of just treating symptoms, we work to uncover root causes—whether it's through nutrition, movement, or lifestyle adjustments. And once our patients feel good on the inside, we offer esthetic treatments to help them feel confident in their appearance too.

Why did you start your business?

After working in emergency medicine for 20+ years, I saw firsthand how many people were struggling—not just from acute illnesses, but from chronic health issues that were often preventable. COVID-19 was an eye-opener. Many of the patients I treated were extremely sick because of underlying conditions like diabetes and obesity. On top of that, I noticed a frustrating pattern: patients were juggling multiple specialists and medications, yet no one was coordinating their care in a way that made sense for them.

As an ER doctor, I could treat immediate concerns, but I couldn’t help people take control of their long-term health in the way I wanted to. That’s why I started Elements of Health—to help people reclaim their health through personalized, preventative care.

What are some key moments in your journey?

Opening a business is not for the faint of heart. It’s been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done—right up there with medical school! Unlike medicine, where there are structured protocols and clear paths forward, entrepreneurship is full of uncertainty. There were times when I thought I’d be opening Elements of Health with a group of other healthcare professionals, but when that partnership fell through, I had to make a tough decision: either back out or go all in on my own.

I chose to move forward, and while it’s been challenging, it’s also been incredibly rewarding. I’ve had to step outside my comfort zone in ways I never expected—especially when it comes to marketing and putting myself out there. But I’ve learned to pivot, problem-solve, and trust my instincts, which has made me a better business owner and a stronger advocate for my patients.

What drives you?

I come from a family of first-generation immigrants, and I was raised with the belief that education is everything. My mother came to the U.S. on a scholarship to Drexel University, and she always told me, "We can’t give you an inheritance, but we can give you an education—so make the most of it."

That mindset, combined with my years in emergency medicine, has given me a heart for helping the underserved and those who need a voice in their healthcare journey. Whether it's through my military service, medical mission trips, or working with patients who feel unheard, I am driven by the belief that everyone deserves compassionate, informed care.

What did you learn from your biggest challenges?

Starting this business pushed me into uncharted territory—and it’s still a learning experience every day. One of my biggest takeaways? Find good mentors and constantly learn from others. I’ve been fortunate to have people who guide me, and I’ve realized that openness to learning is key—especially when it comes to areas like business operations and marketing, which didn’t come naturally to me as a doctor.

I also tell others: do your research, trust your gut, and be selective about who you go into business with. I had to walk away from an uncertain partnership, and that decision—though difficult—allowed me to build Elements of Health the way I envisioned.

Do you have a favorite quote or motto?

This one isn’t about business, but it resonates deeply with me as a mother:

"If you screw up your kids, nothing else you do in life really matters." — Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

No matter how much success I have in my career, my family is the most important part of my life. Watching my kids grow into independent adults is both beautiful and terrifying, and I try to remind myself that I’ve done my best.

Are there any community projects you are passionate about?

I’m excited to get more involved in the Hummelstown Business Association, the Hershey Partnership, and local non-profits that focus on underserved populations. I’m particularly interested in supporting refugee communities and organizations that provide accessible healthcare to those in need.

Is there something interesting about you we might not guess?

I love to dance—specifically hip-hop! I’m part of a group of women in our 40s and 50s who take hip-hop classes together, and it’s one of my favorite ways to stay active. I’ve connected with an amazing community of dancers.
