What does your business do?

We’re an entertainment company that helps venues and event organizers find the right live music and entertainment for their events. I work with a number of venues across central Pennsylvania, including places like the Hotel Hershey, Hershey Country Club, the Hilton in Harrisburg, Castle Vineyards, and the Greenfield Restaurant in Lancaster. My job is to hire musicians and entertainers who perform regularly at those venues, and I also book live music for private and corporate events such as weddings, birthday parties, and anniversary celebrations.

Why did you start your business?

The business really started back in the mid-1980s when I was working as an on-air personality at a local radio station. People would call the station asking if I could DJ their weddings or events. The problem was that I could only be in one place at a time, so I started referring the jobs to other DJs. Eventually, I realized that there was an opportunity to turn that into a business. I created Christopher Entertainment Group so I could coordinate the work and connect people with the right entertainers while managing those bookings professionally.

Can you share a major obstacle you faced and how you overcame it?

One of the biggest challenges was earning the trust of the venues I work with. Many of them are well-known places, and they need to be confident that the entertainment will match the quality of their establishment. My role is to make sure I’m putting the right entertainer in the right venue. There are a lot of talented performers out there, but not everyone fits every setting. Building that trust took time. I had to show that I could reliably match the right performers to the right venues and maintain a high level of professionalism.

What advice would you give others looking to start business?

One thing I always say is that time is money. In this business, being responsive and respectful of people’s time is extremely important. I try to return calls and messages within 24 to 48 hours, and I expect the same courtesy from others. When you run a business, professionalism, communication, and reliability go a long way toward building strong relationships.

Do what community projects are you passionate about?

I’ve always tried to stay involved in the community. I’ve served since the beginning on the committee for the Hershey High School Athletic Hall of Fame, and I’ve been the chairman for many years now. I’m also on the WITF advisory board and serve on the executive board of the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame as vice president. In addition to that, I serve on the Pennsylvania State Board of Barber Examiners and also on the National Barber Board. I enjoy being involved in organizations that support our community, culture, and the barbering profession.

Is there something interesting about you we might not guess?

I'm a musician and a barber!
