Drop In Bookkeeping is a Hershey-area bookkeeping partner dedicated to helping entrepreneurs focus on what they do best by taking the stress and guesswork out of their financial records.
Speciality: small businesses and growing companies.
My business does bookkeeping. What that means is that we record, in QuickBooks, all of the transactions for businesses. If you think about at the end of the year when you have to file taxes, you have to show them how much money you make, how much money you spend, all of that stuff. I'm the one who's recording that and tracking that. We work with a variety of small businesses
I went to school for accounting and felt like there was a need in the marketplace for somebody who has a strong background in accounting to do bookkeeping. Most of the time when I’m meeting with these business owners, either they're doing the bookkeeping themselves to start or maybe a family member is doing it. It's nice that I can have a deeper understanding for how things should be recorded, the accounting side of things. That's really what got me interested in it; knowing that I could help business owners a little bit more. I think taking that off their plate is a big help. One of the most satisfying parts of doing this is that I can see a lot of my clients actually working together or helping support each other in their small business through their transactions. I can see that John Doe from one business paid another one of my clients for goods or services. Also, probably 60-70% of my clients gave out a Christmas bonus. That's really cool to see behind the curtain.

I kind of thought leads would just come to me. It doesn’t just happen like. You really have to put work into it. And sometimes you don’t see those results until 6 months or a year later. I just broke it down to doing a really good job with one client, and then that person gave me one referral, and that referral turned into another. It just kind of spread. I feel like just trying to be consistent and trying to get that one and making sure you do a good job when you get the first one is really important.
Well this is a biased answer, but definitely make sure you stay up to date with bookkeeping and taxes. I say that because a good majority of the time, when people reach out to me, they are in trouble; they're behind on taxes or they have no idea what to do. They have money in their bank account for their business, but they don't know where the money's going. It doesn't have to be QuickBooks, it can be as simple as just saving all your receipts, putting them in a shoe box; just do some sort of record keeping so that you can look back at how you spend your money and how you've made your money. Try to stay consistent with it.

I help coach the youth wrestling team here in Hershey, so I'm pretty passionate about that. I've been doing that for a few years. That's pretty involved; it goes from November to February. I’d say that's definitely something that keeps me busy.
Some people might not know this, but the phrase ‘drop in’ is a skateboarding term. My partner, Ethan, and I both skateboard. We picked that name because we were teetering with this idea for a while. But with skateboarding, when you're on top of the quarter pipe and you're nervous, you don't think, you just Drop In.
