Watch the Blue Angels

Londonderry Township is looking to host its own event when the Blue Angels come to Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) from May 24-25.

The township, which owns and operates the Sunset Golf Course, said the course makes for a perfect viewing area for the show.

“We have made a decision that we should probably try and facilitate our residents and let them watch (the show) at Sunset,” board member Bart Shellenhammer said.

Township manager David Blechertas said the township would charge a flat rate for parking at the golf course, which could hold as many as 400 cars between the parking lot and the driving range.

General admission for the two-day show, which would largely feature the Blue Angels Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, is $34.75 if you attend the show at the airport.

“They did encourage us to monetize our event, if possible,” Blechertas said. “The rates at the airport during this event are high; we would be setting a flat rate for parking.”

For viewing the show, Blechertas said the township would allow spectators to sit on the first and second fairways of the golf course.

The township would also bring in Port-A-Johns and hand washing stations, and the clubhouse and restaurant at the course would be open for business.

Blechertas said food trucks would also be brought in for the township event.

The air show event is also planned for 2026 at HIA, and Blechertas the township would look at hosting a similar event at that time.

Commercial Air Traffic Will Continue

Blechertas said HIA is not planning on shutting down commercial air traffic during the show.

“Full commercial traffic will be on during the air show,” Blechertas said.

Shellenhammer added that the show would occur in between the arrival and departure of the commercial flights.
